ABOUT //

I'm a passionate Creative, Designer and Illustrator who has worked on some of the world’s most loved brands for the past 20 years.

I like to create moments with my work.
Experiences people enjoy, share and remember.

Once I saw a 48 sheet I’d done at an agency near my flat years ago and felt so proud of it. First work in the wild. But no one else cared about it. The ad was ok (think it actually got some complaints) but as I was looking at it, no else noticed it. That deflated me a bit.

I then started making my own stuff. Little ideas that people enjoyed, shared and got into the press. Little shows that brought people together and created moments. I saw the joy in their faces and in their responses. It meant something to them.

A lightbulb moment.

Since then (professionally) I’ve predominantly worked with agencies and brands where I’ve helped create connections and moments with people through music, entertainment, sport, gaming, lifestyle, art, or community. Things that matter to people. Experiences people enjoy, share and remember.

PLAY //

HERO OF SWITZERLAND
FOUNDER //

"It all started when three creatively frustrated friends started drawing together. The drawings accumulated, they put on shows, the internet fell in love with their blogs, they met other creatively frustrated friends and they grew. Now they are one of the most creative and cherished illustration outfits in the UK. You can find their work either clogging up the internet, adorning the shelves of the snazziest shops or on your friend's wall."

I conceive, co-ordinate and project manage all Hero of Switzerland events and projects, though I currently work closely with award winning illustrator and Hertfordshire University Senior Lecturer, Adam Graff to help achieve these various projects. These can be small ideas that include around 5 or so artists, or exhibitions that can consist of up to 20 artists. I also like to explore self initiated ideas that help promote myself or the outfit's creativity and humour, depending on which platform suits.

Having been active for over 10 years, myself and Hero of Switzerland have been ever present in the illustration community, having been published in Timeout, The Guardian Guide and The Huffington Post, exhibited at Somerset House and The Glastonbury Festival, as well as having my work and projects showcased alongside peers such as Mr Bingo, David Shrigley and Hattie Stewart and other artists such as Leonard Cohen, Paul Smith and Yoko Ono.

Hero of Switzerland basically enables me to visually or creatively play and explore things that I wouldn't necessarily be able to do in my day job.

HOBBIES
MUSIC //

The big musical claim to fame is that Kasabian once supported my band Homespun back in the late '90s/early '00s. But whatever happened to them eh? I don't play in a band much anymore, apart from the odd nostalgic reunion practice with my old band mates. I still love playing the guitar whenever I get the chance and recording songs when I have the time.

Music is always playing when I'm working or travelling, and when I'm not collecting my favourite albums on vinyl, I'm looking for new music on Spotify and going to gigs and festivals.

SPORT //

I love my football, continuing to play in my *cough* ‘advancing years’ when I can in the hope that scouts still might catch a glimpse of my grace a guile on the astroturf. I did play for the Leicester City youth team in my early teens, but maybe the coaches realised something then, that I still haven't realised now. “The kid’s got something.”

I'm a Nottingham Forest fan, which after 23 odd years of hurt was rewarded with a return to The Premier League, though it’s not any easier watching them at the wrong end of the table. I can also be seen down Champion Hill supporting Dulwich Hamlet (who I used to a member of), as well as the women’s team with my daughter.

AND THE REST... //

Movies, TV, books, galleries, food, beer, walks... y’know, the usual.

I made the video above during lockdown 2019 and even though it’s dated, it does a decent job of showing who I am.
